Hey Reader, If you're new here, every now and then on a Friday I like to bring you something a little differentโa fun recipe, a personal story, or a challenge to try over the weekend. So... welcome to this month's Can You Do This? challenge. ๐ This one has nothing to do with push-ups, balance, or seeing how long you can hold a plank. Instead, I have a different question for you... Can you move for 5 minutes... without distracting yourself? Hear me out. A few days ago I was doing some easy, repetitive cardio at the gym. Physically, I felt great. Mentally? I was SO bored. ๐ I kept looking down at the distance thinking, "Wait... I still have HOW much farther to go?" Then my brain did what it always seems to do when I finally stop feeding it information... it started thinking. Instead of wishing it was over, my mind started wandering. I wasn't scrolling, listening to a podcast, checking emails, or trying to learn something new. I was simply moving... and thinking. And that's when it hit me. This isn't the first time this has happened. In fact, almost every major idea I've had for my business has come while riding my bike. The same thing happens in the shower or on a quiet walk. It's like the moment my brain finally has enough space, ideas just start pouring in. Sometimes it's the solution to a problem I've been stuck on. Sometimes it's next week's meal plan. Sometimes it's a coaching idea. Sometimes it's absolutely nothing... and honestly, that's okay too. It got me thinking... When was the last time you were truly alone with your own thoughts? I don't mean scrolling Instagram while you're waiting in line or listening to a podcast while you're walking the dog. I mean truly alone with yourself. No notifications. No audiobook. No constant input. Just... you. I work with so many women who are carrying the mental load of everything. Work, kids, aging parents, meals, doctor's appointments, hormones, the never-ending to-do list... it's like our brains never get a break. And when you're already overwhelmed or running on empty, movement can start to feel like just one more thing you're supposed to do. One more workout to squeeze into an already packed day. One more box to check. One more thing you're doing because you feel like you should. But what if movement could actually give something back to you? What if it wasn't just something you did for your body... but something that gave something back to your mind? Maybe it's clarity. Maybe it's creativity. Maybe it's ten uninterrupted minutes where nobody needs anything from you. Maybe it's simply the chance to hear yourself think again. This month we've been talking a lot about hormones, and while nutrition and strength training absolutely matter, so does the amount of mental noise we're carrying every single day. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do for your body, your hormones, and your mind isn't another supplement or another intense workout. Sometimes it's creating enough space to breathe. One of the things I love most about this little experiment is that it solves two challenges I hear from women all the time. They know they need to move their bodies. They know they need to manage their stress. But they don't have time to add one more thing to an already overflowing schedule. This is one of the few habits I've found that lets me work on both at the same time. I'm not just checking the "exercise" box anymore. I'm moving my body while also creating space to think, breathe, process, and simply be with myself for a few minutes. And honestly... I think that's something more of us need. So here's what I want you to try this weekend. I'm calling it The Boredom Cardio Challenge. ๐ (Don't worry... it doesn't actually have to be heart-pounding cardio.) Find one simple, repetitive way to move. Go for a walk. Ride your bike. Hop on the treadmill. Use the elliptical. The activity itself doesn't really matter. What matters is that it doesn't require much thought. Then, for just 5 minutes, leave the podcast at home. Skip the audiobook. Put your phone away. If you enjoy music, keep it soft and low-volume. Bonus points if it's instrumental or doesn't have lyrics. That's it. Your only job is to move... and be curious. What happens when your brain isn't constantly consuming information? What thoughts come up? What emotions surface? Do ideas start flowing? Or do you immediately want to reach for your phone? There's no right or wrong answer. Just notice. Eventually, I'd love for you to work up to about 30 minutes a week (can be separated into shorter segments), but don't worry about that right now. Just see if you can do five. One of my favorite things about this little experiment is that it reminds me movement isn't always about burning calories or changing my body. Sometimes it's about creating enough space to think, to breathe, and to reconnect with myself. Ironically, some of my most productive moments happen when I stop trying to be productive. Who knows... you might finish your walk with a little less stress, a little more clarity, and maybe even your next great idea. If you try it this weekend, I'd LOVE to hear how it goes. Just hit reply and tell me... Could you do it? Talk soon, Bridgette Barlowโ P.S. If your first reaction was, "That sounds terrible..." ๐ You might be exactly the person I hope tries it. Sometimes the things we resist the most are the things we need the most. And if you're looking for a sustainable approach to metabolism, hormones, strength, and midlife health, I'd love to show you how we put concepts like this into practice inside my Metabolic Transformation Method. ๐ www.b4andafterhealthcoach.com/mtmโ |

Hi ReaderI'll never forget my client from a few years ago, Rebecca... She came to me as a "pro dieter" (she even called herself that!) and told me she had done every diet in the book. They all would work for some time and then she would "get lazy" and "cheat" and she would stop losing or regain the weight (those are the words she used). She came to me literally asking for more willpower and motivation and said that she had lost all of hers and didn't know how to get it back so she could...
